About

The objective for this project was to design a persuasive poster on a social or political issue. I selected the topic of water scarcity—specifically, how we can mitigate it by making informed choices about the products we consume. To convey the striking amount of water that goes into some products I focused on beef, one of the biggest offenders.

For my first poster I photographed and printed objects at full scale to contrast a small, accurately-sized bite of steak with the disproportionately large amount of water required to produce it. The angle of the stacked five-gallon containers imparts a sense of precariousness as it guides the eye towards the tiny piece of meat.

The second poster communicates the same message in a different way. Incorporating type as image, it translates the price of beef into gallons of water. The label was added in Photoshop to my original photography. The text in the star mimics supermarket ad design and reinforces the message through both amplification and antithesis.
