ISTD Project - The Poetry of History

THE POETRY OF HISTORY
This book was designed to be a reflection of a conversation between five speakers about the Easter Rising in Dublin, 1916, and a poem it inspired by Yeats. The conversation, which I transcribed, took place on BBC Radio 4 in 2006. The speakers were the radio presenter, three interviewees (experts on the subject), and the poem itself.

In this book, when each speaker talks, they start from their particular gridline on the page. Tracing paper was used as the main material for the book to show the grid more clearly, and the build up and flow of the conversation as words and phrases are repeated in the same position. I also used expressive typography in places to reflect the content of the conversation.
