'Godzilla': Criterion essay packaging

Front cover and banner design
First page of essay
For the design of the booklet I took inspiration from the events ending the Second World War up to the beginning of the Cold War. To do this I designed it to appear as a War-time confidential document, making it almost appear as if it were a real life event. I also felt that the events talked about in the essay, including the atomic detonations over Japan, grounded the film in reality. To continue this style of War-time conspiracy I presented the images as vintage damaged photographs, which appear paper clipped to the documents. For the text I decided to present it as if it were written by typewriter and covered certain lines with black marker, giving it a sense of age and mystery. The finished booklet was then presented with a banner which fits around it; this too was inspired by War-time documents, which would often feature string or pieces of cloth tied around them.

Developed from a design brief set by my university tutor. Created for non-profit.
