What if instead of grinders being either a horribly designed and branded product that is manufactured out of horrible ABS, designed for profit rather than a quality brew; we had a product that was beautifully made and designed to get better over it's life time.
Research Problem.
This (and most others) have the handle on the top. You naturally don't want to rotate your arm on that XY plane. You twist it as to the grinder is parallel to the floor. This is bad because it resulted in the coffee going through the burrs at an angle. Causing an uneven grind. Even grind is the key to a killer coffee.
Solution.
Put a handle on the side.
Inspired by wind up torches I thought the solution to this ergonomic problem would be to put the handle on the side rather than the top. I then prototyped this in cardboard to test the theory.
Sketching.
Final Design.
