Marvelous Sculptures
Under Cut and away from the body... he knows his clay!
This project started as an inspiration for my students in 2012. Then as I began to test the boundaries of my clay mesh I found very important factors effected the out come. The drying time is always a factor to build vertical and strong, yet this can also create a problem when the piece is finished and different areas of strength shrink in different amounts. So when it came to a solid durable clay that could be fired safely and correctly I found that completing the piece in one sitting is utterly imperative. This allows the sculpture to dry even and solid. I also came to the realization that my clay will react different when the A/C in my studio is set at 65 degrees. This makes the studio some what frigid but allows the piece to maintain a stability and workability for a longer time.
