Independence Day for The New Yorker

New project for The New Yorker, illustrating a review of Independence Day: Resurgence. When looked at clips and images from the movie, what stuck out most to me was the buildings being drawn into the sky by the gravitaional field of the mothership. So I did my interpretation of it. Art Direction Nicholas Blechman and Chris Curry.
Close-up of the finish. Used some dot patterns and other effects to give it a pulpy feel.
Original thumbnail sketch and pencils.
Inking in process. I often print out the pencils in blue, and ink right on top of it.
Finished inks. Though I always do some tweaking on the computer
Digital coloring and treatment in process
Finished printed piece in The New Yorker
