Morbidly Adorable Tarot Deck - Images done in 2009

The Morbidly Adorable Tarot Deck is a project that I am creating for U.S. Games!
Beginyour journey with the Fool from the Morbidly Adorable Tarot Deck! Withall his/her worldly possessions tied in a bundle, the lighthearted Foolembraces life with a naive and hopeful heart. The Fool's cautiousfriend, Wart (short for Worry Wart), serves as a reminder to the Foolto exercise good judgment -- a bit of a reality check. Wart's missingeye is a reminder that the world is not always kind! On the other hand, the Fool's skelly dog faithfully accompanies and guards the eternalchild on his journey! Enjoy a glimpse into this world!
Meetthe Faery Priestess of Skullcoco. She has Rococo sensibilities with askull flair. Dressed lavishly in her silvery garb, she perches on herpomegranate-colored couch divining the mysteries. The pomegranate coloris a reminder of the fruit that allowed Persephone of Greek mythologyto travel between two worlds -- the living and the dead, earth and theunderworld. The Priestess sits between her two cats that represent thetwo pillars in tarot -- light and dark, life and afterlife. Cats arecreatures generally associated with magic and mystery. The skelly catsits atop the Priestess' book of knowledge while the crescent moon nextto the black cat illuminates the mysteries. The Priestess' trance-likegaze is searching for knowledge as she decides how much and what shewill reveal to the querent.
Asthis little darling has discovered, the world is yours! The dragon andthe peacock reach out to place a crown on her head as she completes hergoals and achieves her dreams. The Daruma upon which she perches is asign of this. (Darumas are traditional Japanese "dolls" that come withwhite eyes. While thinking of a goal or a wish, one colors in an eyewith black ink or paint. Upon completion of the goal, the other eye ispainted black to demonstrate that the project has come full circle.) Ineach of the four corners are the Morbidly Adorable symbols of the 4elements -- dragon = fire, peacock = air, seahorse = water, and skellyflowers = earth. The Morbidly Adorable World card is full of sweetlyspooky symbolism!
TheDeath card (depicted as a New Orleans' Skelly Jazz Funeral) reminds usthat the passage of time is inevitable, and it should be celebrated!Following loss, there is a period of renewal where we take stock of theold ways, and craft new and better ways. The skelly in the corner showsus how to laugh at death, and make the most of our time here! The Deathcard reminds us that when it rains skellies, it's time for atransformation!
