She–Moji: Emoji For Women

The standard emoji keyboard reduces female identities to brides, princesses and dancers, with female activities centered around getting nails or hair done. Two of my close friends wanted to change all of that, and approached me to help bring their idea to life – with an emoji keyboard to celebrate women.

We liked the idea of creating something that spoke to girl power – or as the media calls it 'women empowerment' – in a light, but direct way. We also wanted to try create something that could spread fast, and act simply, and quite literally, as a mini shout-out to the ladies – wherever, and whoever they may be.

Red-headed yogis. Grumpy blondes. A black belt karate master with an afro. A latina astronaut. An Indian chef. Even an African-American goth.

With classic Japanese gaming undertones, She–Moji's identity nods to Emoji's origins, but with new eyes.

She–Moji dropped July 2016, and is available now on the App Store.
