National and University Library in Zagreb is a public institution of national significance which performs library activities and provides information and reference services acting as the national library of the Republic of Croatia and the central library of the University of Zagreb. The Library also conducts scientific, research and development activities for the purpose of promoting Croatian librarianship and organizing and developing Croatian library system. 

 

We all know how it feels to go to the library and take a walk among many shelves filled with books. Walking through National and University Library, I found that of all the elements of which the library consists, bookshelves stand out the most. Library is a place where books are stored, so I decided to store the text of the annual report in an imaginary shelf. While working on this annual report, I wanted to evoke that feeling when we stand in front of a bookshelf and look for a book we are going to read. For this, the best tool was typography. When the annual report is opened, its design evokes stacked books on a shelf. Headings and subheadings form a thin book, while the current text located in the block that is mutually aligned forms spines of a thicker books. All book spines are different by their height and thickness, and take on the appearance of a book on the shelf. I used different fonts in order to emphasize the variety of all the books in the library. Each book has its own font, its specificity, area and time in which it arises.
