Royal Darwin Hospital: Environmental Themeing

The Department of Infrastructure, Australia contacted Boab to develop environmental themeing patterns to be applied to various structures in the main entry area of the Royal Darwin Hospital precinct. Utilising the architects’ drawings, renderings and general structure sizes and locations, we set to task.

The hotspot of the precinct combines the main entrance to the hospital, a cafe and an outdoor relaxation area, as well as a bus stop and taxi rank.

Living in a tropical and harsh climate, we had to consider cyclone and weather-proof materials.

The Indigenous culture in Australia believe that the healing process is not only sped up, but inherently linked to being outside and connecting with nature. Therefore, this area is not only used as a thoroughfare, but also as a place to relax and heal. Thus came our decision to use the patterns present in animal-built structures.

THANK YOU
