All-girls Roller Derby branding
When the Boulder City Bombers approached me about branding them, I was so excited. Stylistically, roller derby is right up my alley and I hadn't even thought of it. The colour, grunge, and let's not forget the female form were all there.
The only criteria I had were that the colours are green, black and yellow and they didn't want it to be too risqué.
The nature of roller derby logos made me call into question what a logo can be, and how complex can one be before it verges into other territory. In this project I explored a lesser taken path, and avoided the pin up style all together. I was inspired by hand-drawn cursive and industrialized type faces, creating both fonts myself.
I was also inspired by Old-school American tattoos as they draw on the rough vintage I know would appeal to the target audience.
