Due to high ridership, the state of California came to Amtrak’s design group with funding to design a new fleet of cars. This fleet would consist of four car types, however, the main focus of this new fleet was the dining car. Some specific requests were to consolidate the lounge seating to one end of the car creating space for revenue seats on the other side. Fixing current traffic flow issues, modernize the galley area, and create new color and material palettes were a few of the design issues.
