Color Me Gray is an adult-ish coloring and activity book that re-addresses the possibilities for finding mindfulness through coloring. Seventeen drawings with accompanying fill-in-the blank text offer a fun and interactive introduction to SamDakota's work for the uninitiated while maintaining the beauty and care fans have come to expect. The images are cartoonish characters from the artist’s inner world rendered in a style reminiscent of the coloring books popular in the early 90s, each one posed alongside an open-ended statement intended to elicit a response from the interactor that requires interpreting the scene while recalling their own experiences simultaneously. Within this multi-layered process, mindfulness (a word often associated with the current adult coloring book craze) is achieved through the artist’s portraits of subjectivity and further encouraged from each and every other subject that experiences the same images in whatever way they chose.
