Rogue is one of my favorite Marvel girls to draw and paint. She's great!!

So, yes, a lot of us work with references and this is not an exception. I wanted to study some lighting in her chin upper lip and hair so here's the study. Then added some color to enhance her up a bit. Took me about 45 min and his is the result.

Here's part of the process to it. First the "clean" simple guide lines with a gray BG:

Now let's define some areas of light with color:

Some times I use brushes, some other times I use the smudge tool in PS to soften edges and blend colors.

After this it (beneath)  is just adding details in every zone and hair. Then some lights and extra colors.
