Elmwood 2016: The Two Rivers Non Alcoholic Bitters.

The Two Rivers Non Alcoholic Bitters
Brand Concept & Design

The Two Rivers Non Alcoholic Bitters celebrates the flavours, aromas and much more expected from a standard bitters, yet with 0% alcohol volume.
Bringing bitters back to its origins in Mesopotamia a few drops can be enjoyed with your favorite sparkling or tonic water and tastes just as magical as its homeland sounds.

The Brand Story
Bitters intended for flavorings were developed in Iraq during the 19th Century. The word ‘Mesopotamia’ refers to Iraq in its original name, meaning ‘the land between two rivers’, giving the brand its name.
The name ‘The Two Rivers’ also connotes the two lifestyle choices - Alcohol abstinence and alcohol consumption. The bitters encompasses the great taste from alcoholic bitters yet remaining at 0%vol, mixing the ‘Two Rivers’ together, creating the best of both worlds.

Design Style
Research conducted into the history of Iraq lead me towards Islamic pattern designs and styles. To keep the brand true to its bitters heritage, patterns and symbols have been created drawing inspiration from my research to give the packaging design an Islamic feel with a western world twist.
Colour schemes were developed sampling colours from traditional patterns and artwork, and from them, choosing fitting colours for each individual flavour of the bitters.
