High Five is an exceptional garden bench, originally commissioned by a husband and wife with three teenage daughters. They desired a well-designed wooden bench, large enough to seat all five family members - not stiffly in a row, but in a relaxed cosy manner, allowing one to stretch like a cat and enjoy a good book, as the other sits up straight, working on a laptop. We thought of a shape that would reinforce the warmth of being together. We opted for a slightly curved seat with a high back, flaring outward like a sea-shell. The bench comes with two small tables, that can be used either as side tables or as footstools. These handy additions can be partly stored under the seat. Read Less

PHILOSOPHY OF OUR DESIGNS

We are living in an era in which many products are offered to us as socalled black boxes, even as the complexity of these products increases dramatically.

The paradox here is that - partly due to the development of (graphical)user interfaces - the end user is more and more comfortable and at ease withusing products, while at the same time is less aware with the real and oftencomplex mechanisms that lie behind them.
Seen from this perspective, it seems that today’s end-users are increasinglyout-of-
touch with the products they use.

Our work is about demystification. The most striking element of our designsis that the most important mechanisms and constructions of the products aremade visible.
All products of DvanDirk are designed and made according to this whitebox-approach.
