Paying Homage to Fantastic Illustrations that Inspired My Love of Drawings.
As a kid, I loved to try to draw my favorite comic book illustrations. Now I'm having some fun paying homage to my favorite illustrations in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. So here's the tricky part: I put my name on all the art because I've gone to a lot of trouble to figure out how to create it, but ALL of the images are from art I've liked and collected in my travels across the 'interwubs'. I'm just having some fun–NOT taking credit for others art. When possible, I like to give credit to the original artist. All these images can also be found on my Pinterest page (JG Design board) - http://pinterest.com/jremmy
Superman
Made using one of my favorite new images of the redesigned costume via Jim Lee. I'm actually a really big fan of the change to the costume. The heart of the Superman character is still the same no matter what costume changes are made and that's what counts.
Batman

The Dark Knight Rises This movie is going to be ridiculously good and, since it's release is around the corner, you'll probably see me making a few more of these very soon, lol.
X-Men – Gambit

I always thought Gambit was pretty badass as a kid. He was always one of my favorite X-Men. Too bad I didn't have time to squeeze Rogue into this picture.
The Avengers – Captain America

I'm getting geared up for the Avengers movie coming out, so I wanted to take a crack at 'the first avenger' to start things off. I used a Marvel Civil War cover to make this Captain America. I hope you like it.
The Avengers – Iron Man

I ended up with Iron Man for the next in my Avengers series. The original picture is from Marvels website and is way better than this, but it was a lot of fun to make.
The Avengers – Thor

Next up in the Avengers series is Thor. I can't say that I was that big of a fan of him as a kid, but Marvel sure knows how to make a movie, and Thor has grown on me since seeing him on the big screen. This image is based on a great drawing by Michael Turner. Turner is one of my favorite illustrators of all time, but sadly he passed away from bone cancer in 2008. If you like, then google him. His work on the Batman/Superman comic is amazing!
The Avengers – Black Widow

Here is my Black Widow for this Avengers series. I made it from a really cool J. Scott Campbell image, and it looked as if he based it on Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of the character from the movies. He's another great artist with over a decade of experience in the comic book industry as an illustrator/creator. He also has quite a knack for the female form.
The Avengers – Hawkeye

Continuing with the S.H.I.E.L.D. focus of my Avengers series, here is Hawkeye. This one is based completely on the movie version of the character and not the one I originally grew up with. I actually like the changes to the costume.
Superman – Man Of Steel

I recreated the banner for the new movie from scratch in photoshop. Nowhere near as good as the original, but a decent knockoff for about 2 hours work. I love seeing how the S shield evolves over time.
The Avengers – Hulk

I really wanted to save Hulk for last, but when I came across this image online, I got too excited and had to skip over my plans to make Fury first. I love this shot of the violent transformation that occurs when Banner loses control of the monster within. I can't make out the artists signature, but if I find out who made the original I will gladly post it later.
The Avengers – Nick Fury

Once again, the Nick Fury that I grew up with is completely different than the movie version, but that's a good thing. Marvel's decision to remake Fury in the image of Sam Jackson is definitely a good decision.
The image I used for Superman here is from a classic piece of art by Alex Ross. The mans work in the comic world is legendary. The quote is from Supermans father, Jor-El, in Superman Returns. I've always loved it for two reasons. 1. Jor-El could've sent his son to many planets where he would have been safe, and probably wouldn't have had to bear the weight of a heros burden. However, Jor-El sends his son to Earth, knowing the powers he will have, because he believed humans were worth saving. He believed in his son to do the right thing and believed in us as a race. 2. At the heart of Supermans story, it's about a mother and fathers last act and only chance to save their son.
Man of Steel (Facebook Fan Page)- Cover Art Contest Submission

This was my official submission for the Cover Art contest on the Man of Steel fan page. They will be picking a new one every month supposedly, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get one picked eventually. I'm a big nerd, but I think it would be cool.
Man of Steel (Facebook Fan Page) - Cover Art

This was originally going to be my submission for the Man of Steel fan page Cover Art contest. However, I didn't account for the profile pic covering up part of the image. I still thought it was pretty nice, so I posted it anyway.
Flash

The inspiration for this one came from a Francis Manapul image. I always liked the way the yellow on his suit trailed behind him like lightning when he was running. The new suit designed by Jim Lee is even better.&n
