Marina
a message in a bottle
This project was made for the package design assignment, where we were allowed to make a package for any chosen product, taking into account the type of audience it appeals to, market research and price of production, as well as safety and other practical issues. My design product is a perfume - deep sea scent with notes of patchouli and jasmine, which I chose to call Marina as a beautiful combination of the sea reference and a girl's name. The main concept for the design is the "message in a bottle". The bottle is designed to look like a spirit container that has spent a long time in the sea and has acquired the signs of being at the ocean bottom - beautiful shell formations with pearls embedded in them. The shell formations would be fabricated out of plastic with real pearls, if mass-produced at the factories, or hand-crafted from real shells and pearls if it will be sold as elite high-price perfume. The bottle top consists of  single real shell fixed on a cork with the perfume dropper inside.
The inside of the bottle holds a message which would contain either a romantic poem about the sea or a blank sheet of paper where a  message to a beloved one can be written, depending on the edition. The message would be retrieved from the bottle through a special hole at the bottom of the container and covered by a glass dome from the top so that it does not get wet, yet is seemingly inserted inside. The perfume box is designed to look like a wine box from light wood with text engravings on it. The bottle will be fixed inside the box by an accordingly shaped base designed to look like a sand pile and saved from breaking during the transportation by the soft dried waterplant filling of the box.
The photoshoot of the product is designed to give the photos some retro feel, as the whole idea of the package is about romance and nostalgia.
