This icon system was developed for an existing institution, the W Hotel chain. The challenge was that the icons needed to be understood internationally, as the hotel has locations around the world. Words were also purposely excluded for that reason, so the illustration would be the only tool of communication. The goal was also to reflect the contemporary yet elegant style of the architecture and interiors of the hotels. This was done through elegant yet simple lines, balancing curved and straight elements to create an updated version of a standard icon system. These icons were also developed to be utilized in multiple outlets, such as web and mobile apps, print and environmental.
