Revitalizing Daniel Burnham’s Chicago Plan of 1909 to Enliven Chicago’s Modern Urban Environment
Redesigned Chicago Plan
Revitalizing Daniel Burnham’s Chicago Plan of 1909 to Enliven Chicago’s Modern Urban Enviornment
Focus of the Plan:
Water: Reduce impervious cover and utilize water conservation methods in the downtown area.
Land: Create park systems to promote use of outdoor environment and reduce city surface temperatures.
Community: Increase safety and speed of metro systems while encouraging and enlivening diverse interactions

Research and city planning/innovation in collaboration with students from the University of Chicago.
Areas of Interest:
"It has been proven that compact, mixed-use, and dense cities
like Chicago use resources more efficiently and their residents use
public transit more often than their rural and suburban counterparts. To
ensure this continues we want to improve the experience of city living
by reducing the ability of parking lots to trap heat, creating places for
stormwater other than people’s basements and creating tree canopy
throughout the city to help with both."

Richard M. Daley, Mayor of Chicago

-Implement diagonal walking paths that cut through the heart of the city.
Stimulates conversation and interaction among various social classes and businesses.
Creates a reliable form of commute that allows city members to avoid traffic.
Continue to provide support and funding for a safe and efficient metro system.
-Build reservoir/park bridge in Monroe Harbor
Conserve valuable rainwater and provide clean water for the city.
Allow for water runoff from downtown buildings to be collected in a central location.
Implement new docking harbor to keep alive Chicago’s sea trade.
-Introduce natural elements into the Downtown area
Utilize building rooftops as gardens or wind turbines to reduce the impervious cover
while also supplying alternative forms of energy.
Increase/expand number of parks to promote community and environment
