The project was to repackage a classic novel into modern cover using the format of a bound book. I chose the novella Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad. Some of the problems was to use hierarchy on the cover to grab the views attention, and make them want to read the book.

The interior needed to be typeset to create hierarchy as well to create an easy reading flow. I used symbols of the book to illustrate the cover, the blown out candle represents the life and death of the main character, and his journey through the “heart of darkness” which was a metaphor for the Congo river in which he was traveling. The characters name was Kurt, so the K was used to represent the candle, and his life.
