Arts Feature Produced For KBAQ 89.5 FM, Phoenix, AZ
This project required an unusual mix of creativity and sensitivity. When I worked as a writer, producer and program host for Classical Public Radio in Phoenix, our Music Director came to me with a CD that had been submitted by a listener who was also a very dear and loyal supporter of the station. Her compositions were not appropriate for our format and playlist but he wanted to honor her artistic passion in some way.

The creative challenge was to write and produce an arts feature that showcased her work and personal story in a way that fit the sound of the station. The solution I found was to use her music as a background score while focusing on clips from our actual classical playlist that tied in with her biographical story as she told it. Because this aired during a national show called "Performance Today" we also had to hit some tight time constraints and everyone was delighted with the results.

In addition to writing and voicing the piece, I also did all the digital editing and mixing and timed all the music cues with key points in the script. I'm especially proud of the flute post at 1:02 where she talks about the Chicago Symphony. While I was employed at KBAQ, my Music Director Sterling Beeaff and I shared national "Crystal Communicator" honors for an original long form program called "Eight Candles." This one hour documentary on the music of Hanukkah, which I wrote and he produced, was selected for Best Script and Best Arts Feature and continues to run during the holiday season.
