White on Rice
Write on Rice—its name a play on the expression “like white on rice”—is a
hand-formed typeface loosely based on the classic slab serif Clarendon.
Constructed out of steamed, white rice, the lowercase letterforms evoke a
fun playing-with-your-food feel while still maintaining a clean aesthetic. To
further highlight its “eatableness,” letters and larger punctuation are centered
on a dark blue, ceramic dinner plate; smaller punctuation, such as the period
and comma are centered on a smaller, dessert plate. The plates are then placed
on a faux woodgrain bench to enhance its handmade quality.
