Book cover
I redesigned two book covers for the book called The Reader by Bernhard Schlink using typography and my minor photography. The novel is set in Germany post world war two where an illiterate woman falls in love with a young school boy. She is sent to prison for committing a crime she never did. Her goal in life is to die a literate woman and she achieves her goal before she decides to take away her life.

Type book cover
My idea for this book cover is to narrate the whole story just with the use of type. The type is reversed and is not readable whereas the identical alphabets at end are making sense. That is what the whole story about, a woman who was illiterate and eventually she becomes literate.

Photographic cover
Since a metaphoric picture has already been used on the original cover of the book. The idea was to use a portrait of women for this cover and capture the complexities of her life; type is used to give a hint of the plot and to makes the visual ambiguous.
