Form Follows Function
Follows Decay

Design reveals it self perpetually; During process, production and decay. It exists forever!

The letters are all individualy mounted on the board with USB ports that also supply power to the LED's and fans.
Vector logos arranged with Illustrator and printed on three thin A4 water decal sheets.
Many many pages were filled which helped to determine and develop the idea/concept, as well as help with the construction part of this project.
The letters were first drafted out a few times. Finally it looked like a variation of VAG rounded bold. Then I made a mock-up mostly to figure out the chamfers. The G's roof line could have been a millimeter longer... decided not to touch it though. Plenty of tests were made on extra casts, like adding different half-rounds on the edges of the letters. At one point I even wanted the edges to be round profile rubber strings inserted in slots (I bought the strings but never tested them). Unfortunately I ran out of time and all half-round trim ideas were scrapped.
The letter "G" was molded and multiple castings from it were used to create the rest of the letters. Also, rounded lengths look shorter, so some of the letters were modified accordingly. The "I" in the picture was cut in half and was extended by about two millimeters.
The small-part prototypes are sprued and walled up... all ready to be molded. No complicated molds were made for this project. Open molds were made for the letters, mostly to slush-cast and add dirt to the resin.
Two different cavities and plugs were made for the different letter configurations.
There are tiny fans installed in the letters, so having vents was a must. Also, vents look bad ass on anything.
Close ups of the decayed and broken parts revealing the plastic junk inside. It's a type of reverse Kintsugi I suppose. And yes, I collect tiny pieces of plastic.
The E's middle length was long and weird and I chose to decay it rather than shorten it.
The letters were first airbrushed with a rare Molak enamel primer. Then for masking the letters I used regular Tamiya and Pactra flexible tape.
thank you!
