Hand-carving
Using felled ash from the garden I made various things from wood. The tools used include hand tools, a belt sander and a powered rotary tool.
Bear (2009): this is roughly 7cm high and was my first attempt at wood carving. I left it rough cut and finished it with beeswax.
This horse (2009) stands about 6cm high at its back. I feel it balances having character with retaining a realistic shape.
Surfboard with case (2010): a 20cm surfboard that was shaped, painted and finished with satin varnish. I then made a simple spruce box lined with velvet to support the surfboard.
