Ode to Zanesville, OH
This piece, a mourning necklace, pays homage to the animals that were massacred near where I grew up in Zanesville, Ohio. On October 19th, 2011, an exotic animal collector released 49 animals from his farm shortly before killing himself. The "collection" included 18 bengal tigers, 17 lions, 8 bears, 3 mountain lions, 2 wolves, and a baboon. All of these animals were shot and killed. I created this necklace to not only mourn these animals, but to address the problems of the exotic animal trade.
