Munk Studios was commissioned by ITN to produce a series of sponsorship animations for Birds Eye products to be aired with the Simpsons on Channel four.
This was a particuarly fun brief, although like any project, it did have its challenges. The first challenge to overcome was to create a character based narrative which would directly linked to a birdseye commercial that would be running on air at the same time. The challenge was that the commercial hadn't been made yet. This meant we had to have a completely flexible workflow, where we could begin production assuming that the creative could and would change at any given moment.
The second challenge was down to the IP regulations set by the simpsons, which are very strict, meaning that these sponsorships could in no way be linked creatively to the simpsons. This posed a challenge, because coincidentaly, the previs and script for the commercial we received was very similar in nature to the title sequence of the simpsons.
Both of these challenges had to be overcome along with a tight deadline, so flixible workflow was a must. Our solutions were to get creative sign off as quicly as possible and begin production using both a 2d and 3d workflow mixed, would mean that the character animation became easier to edit down the line incase there were any drastic changes and any 2d elements could easily be switched.
