Un-framing.Traditional Craft to Contemporary Wallpapers

The brief given was to choose an Indian Craft and study it, and further develop the craft into contemporary designs for wallpapers. I chose to go ahead with 'Kalamkari'. (kalam: pen, kari: work) A type of hand-painted or block- printed textile, it is practiced predominantly in parts of Andhra Pradesh as well as certain parts of Gujurat and Rajasthan.

In keeping with the natural theme, I chose to use motifs inspired from sea- life as it has barely been used in the craft, and I thought it would lend itself well to the final outcome. I kept the colour palette as natural as I could.
