Project Description

Next November 30th will mark the 350th birthday of Jonathan Swift, widely regarded as the greatest prose satirist in the English language. This election year seems a particularly fitting time to tackle Swift’s cutting and absurd observations of the institutions of humankind. Project is to design a cover for a new trade paperback edition of Swift’s masterpiece, Gulliver’s Travels. Design should be built around an illustration based in the style of designer and illustrator, David Plunkert.

 

Concept

Jonathan Swift's book has 4 different stories about Gulliver. Referencing to one of them, "A Voyage to Brobdingnag", when Gulliver survived through the storm in the sea and had been found on the shore by giants. Through all story Gulliver has been treated as a pet or entertaining toy, been attacked by birds and animals, stolen by monkey. Gulliver has been carried in the box and box has been his method to go back home.
