Curious. When one looks at their own work they see the culmination of, what is in this case a months worth of their lives. So to ask what I like and dislike about the piece that I produced this month is to ask not only my opinion of my work and by extension what I think my standing is as an artist but it is also to ask for parallels between what I have created and the events occurring between me sitting down to work. As such my reflection is as follows.

Looking at the finished piece, I do like it. I think I took it to a place I would have considered beyond my skill at the beginning of the month. I consider the whole month in which this project took place to be a general success and a growing period. I found myself amongst the top performing at my job and my interpersonal relationship skills have greatly increased. I particularly enjoyed creating the end of the animation, and for that reason I think it is the best part. That is not to say that it did not come with it’s own particular set of challenges. I would say that the easiest part of this month is was the block in. It felt a lot like when one is sketching and is able to just throw shapes around to get a general idea of what they want. That being said the hardest part was the refinement. Being given two weeks for refinement is sort of terrifying. On one hand you get things looking good on week three and chill out for the weekend, but low and behold week four rolls around and you're lost as to what you are supposed to be doing. Being stuck wondering how to make something better is probably the worst feeling.

I felt the most engaged with the project, oddly enough, when I was away from my computer. When I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about my curves in the graph editor, or when I was out and about watching people walk and sit and stand up, that’s when I felt I was learning the most. I think the event that sort of summarized the whole thing is while I was working, a student of mine walked to and proceeded to hop up on a counter and then promptly fell off the back of it. It was basically everything that I needed for my animation in the span of about two seconds.

I think that should I have to scrap this animation and start again, I would have probably picked a different environment to work in. There is just so much going on in the scene that it made it difficult to firstly animate the character, and secondly find an acceptable position to place the camera. I also would probably slow down a bit, so that I don’t do all the work at the beginning portion of the week and then have to sit there the rest of the week wondering if there was more that I could have done. That was probably the most irritating thing this month. The waiting to submit something, and then having to wait for feedback and then waiting even longer to actually get a grade.
