Parlour: Pre-Scooped Ice Cream
Branding and packaging for a pre-scooped ice cream product
This was a personal project for which I had complete creative freedom to create whatever brief I wanted. My intention with this project was to create and design a product that did not currently exist on the marketplace. During a discussion with a friend about pre-scooped ice cream and its feasibility as a product, I found myself thinking that it could actually offer an interesting and challenging project. I believed that such a product would provide a challenge as there were several creative considerations to take into account.

As a niche product and one which would most likely cost more to produce due to the nature of its packaging, I imagined that its point of sale would be found in the food departments of stores such as Harvey Nichols or Harrods, and would therefore carry a higher price tag than the majority of ice cream products found in supermarkets. Considering this, I decided on a target market of young-middle age adults (25-40) that
lived in urban/social environments and had the income to spend on products such as this. As it would be distributed from stores such as Harvey Nichols, the product would need to have a clean and high quality appearance, and appeal to the grown-up demographic that it is aimed at.

I have named the brand 'Parlour' as I feel this is a word that can be easily associated with ice cream, while sounding mature at the same time. I also felt this name had a traditional sound to it, which I also tried to implement hints of into my packaging design. When designing the packaging, I chose to use a 3D trapezium shape rather than a standard box/rectangular shape in an effort to make the packaging more distinctive. I
have designed the packaging to have a clean and high quality appearance, with hints of traditional features. I chose to use 3 flavours that would not commonly be seen as I believed this would add to the high quality attributes of the product i.e. more gourmet than standard flavours such as vanilla or chocolate.
