In February 2016, I was approached to do the charter logo and wordmark for a new Splatoon squad, Komodo. Founded by Pixel, Komodo had aspirations of being a top-tier squad, something now confirmed by its placement in the LUTI S Division and its performance in top tournaments.
Before all of that, Komodo needed a logo. Taking inspiration from (what else?) the forked tongue of the komodo dragon, I developed a logo for KM that was versatile and creative.
The design is highly geometric but also representative. The "K" and "M" are the forked tongues of two komodo dragons, each pointing toward a common goal. The logo is so easy to construct it can be made with just three squares.
Of course, a logo was not all that was needed...so I created a wordmark (seen above) and a fancy Twitter header that takes advantage of the logo's construction and turns it into a repeating pattern.
