We are what we post. We are what we leave on social network. On the era where datas define our digital life, track each part of our web surfing, social medias are a way to create our own digital self-portrait. This image is created by our use of them, our behaviours. The post we write, the images we like, the pages we share… all of them participate to sculpt our digital self-portrait.
Non-Finito is a sensitive sculpture shaping itself according the behaviour of its viewers.
The installation works like a translation of our digital self-portrait created through our use of various social medias. It consists in a monolith, composed by a screen and audio output, in a black environnement, showing a floating digital rock. Each time a viewer step into the field of detection, he will sculpts himself from the rock. This creates a digital sculpture and a unique sound imprint until the user leave the detection field. When leaving, the rock will be replaced by another generative digital rock.
The project has been developed using Processing 3, GLSL and Kinect V2 via the KinectV2 Library.

The mesh is created based on the body depth informations computed from the kinect into real space coordinate. A centroidal smoothing is applied to the mesh in order to create a smooth 3D Sculpture.
The shading effect is created using GLSL shaders with a custom pipeline in order to create a generative marble sculpture and various lighting and material effects such as environment mapping, shadow mapping and fog.

The user discovers his sculpture in a unique way via a generative camera animation based on various shots tracking the head of the sculpture.
