The book is about a journey of a shepherd boy Santiago who traveled from Spain to Egypt to fulfill his ‘Personal Legend’, which was to find a treasure under Pyramids. The story itself is a simple story of Santiago’s journey, but it teaches us about our life journey and he speaks essential messages to us—to listen to our own hearts and follow our own dreams.
The story has a sense of fantasy and magical feeling so I got inspiration from the ancient alchemical drawings and immatated the style of woodcut prints in my illustration. I depicted the night scene in desert which is an important scene in the book. Since the story is not just about Santiago’s journey but also can be interpreted as our life journey, I wanted the bookcover to be first point of view. Such perspective makes the readers feel like they are facing the desert in front of them so that the readers are engaged to dive into the journey.
