WE EAT : Designing For Healthy Eating Habits Research

According to the American Journal of Hypertension, when people eat out they tend to eat food that contains more calories, saturated fat, and salt than people eat at home. Dining out can increase the risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Therefore, I want to make people who have no ability or time to cook at home realize the harmfulness of dining out a lot, and encourage them to eat more homemade food, as well as learning how to cook healthy food at home. In my thesis, I will outline a history of dining behavior, and the reasons why more and more people tend to dine out than cook at home. Also, I will do statistical research and medical research to show the harmfulness of dining out. Last, I am going to find out how graphic design can be used to help simplify the cooking process, and using BJ Fogg’s behavior change method that described in his website and his book Persuasive Technology: Using Computers to Change What We Think and Do, to nudge healthy eating habits through digital design.
