UX : sound visualization film

Project Parameters:
"Given 2 weeks, create a time-based sound visualization at least 3 minutes long"

I took these parameters to develop a fictional narrative that would be made real through the use of physical effects.

PROCESS

Material and Prop Preparation

Basic Squeeze Water Bottles were bought and painted with pop and neon acrylic paint.

The materials bought for developing props served both as inspiration and a moodboard for the scenes.

Materials for Organs: Balloons, Gelatin, Gesso, Glue, Acrylic, Food Coloring, Latex/Plastic films, Putty
I tested different consistencies of gelatin to create the desired effects for each organ component, some turned out to be too brittle and stiff to play as organ parts.
"Tumors" and "Bloodclots" (left) were made through injecting long balloons with a mixture of red and purple food coloring, glue, and gelatin for thicker consistencies.
The smaller "organs" (middle) were made through injecting colored mixtures of gelatin into long balloons, refrigerating, and peeling away the latex. Some of the organs contained gesso to create an opaque, pastel, and fleshy tone.

Filming
Much of the effort in preparation for filming was put into getting each person accustomed to their operation role and exploding "organs".
In this process, I prepared different "test organs" and scripts for each person, and filmed trial scenes for the operation.
Each hand action needed to be exact, methodical, and within one movement. Any other movements or twitches were cut out, frame by frame.

The operation scene was filmed within one long cut.
There was one static camera filming the birds eye view, and one moving camera for the close-up scenes.
Thank you!
