    This is my graduation work at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin in 2015. I travelled during last year several times to Lourdes, this world-famous Christian pilgrimage site in France, where miracles and transcendent phenomena are considered commonplace. My work does not present a classic story on this place, but it is about to tell a story beyond the commercial aspects often associated with it. I wanted to explain Lourdes unadorned, naked and characterized by its original energy. And as a non-practicing Catholic, I immersed myself in this world trying to be unbiased, let me touch by the unreal atmosphere fostered in this place of fervent belief and worship. Through my medium format camera, I employed the means of modern contemporary photography including spontaneous snapshot aesthetics and a bold use of flash. I managed to capture in a targeted manner, the constant elements of the aura emanating from Lourdes giving to my photographs a purist, mystical and poetic aesthetic. My visual language is not documentary, but uses symbols and metaphors. This series shows a stylized reality that emerges from all pilgrimage through photographs of landscapes, objects of worship and people praying. Read Less

Stéphanie Bonn travelled to Lourdes several times and took unique documentary photographs at this famous religious site where miracles and transcendent phenomena are considered commonplace. Her photo series captures the unreal atmosphere fostered in this place of fervent belief and worship. She employs the means of modern contemporary photography including spontaneous snapshot aesthetics and a bold use of flash. Her photo series was recently shown in Vice Magazine. She graduated at the Ostkreuz School class of Ute Mahler.
