Vanitas Still Life Light Painting

“Vanitas”, in my own understanding is the means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. In the arts, “vanitas” is a type of symbolic work of art especially associated with still life painting. A vanitas painting, while possibly containing lovely objects, always included some reference to man's mortality - most often a human skull (with or without other bones), but also by way of burning candles, soap bubbles or decaying flowers.
A skull is often being used in the “vanitas” concept. “It is a reminder of the inevitability of death. Just as the portrait is only a reflection of once-living person and the skull is only the form of once-living head. The spectator must perceive it as “flipping”, it most clearly symbolizes the frailty of human life.”
With the inspiration from the meaningful concept of “vanitas” and the works from previous famous artists, I did my own “version” of “vanitas”. The main idea of my images is “Yin – Yang”, which is the Death “Yin” and Life “Yang”, or the circle of life and how people get stuck inside the strength of God.
