Return to Sender
Performance Art, ca. 1993
This was a piece of performance art. When the Elvis Presley stamp came out in 1993, a lot of people had the idea to get the stamp post-marked "Return to Sender." I took this to the level of Art however by addressing the letter to the Elvis himself - return receipt - and actually mailing it. The U.S. Postal Service has an iron-clad policy of not honoring anyone with a stamp until they have deceased. By mailing this letter to Graceland and getting it returned without receipt, I was able to prove to the world, once and for all, that the King was, in fact, dead.
