Innerbloom: Visual Samples

Innerbloom: Visual Samples

Digital collage, glitch design, photomedia

Responding to the idea of ‘Visual sampling’ by mimicking the process of copy, transform and combine in music production and basing this on the 10 minute song ‘Innerbloom’ by Rufus du Sol through a series of visuals.

No.1 {A Graphic Score}

Deconstructs the layers within the song by visually notating each sound, sample and  effect as well as considering tempo and dynamics. The song is condensed down to 4 bars per stave and colour saturation reflects the dynamics in the song.
This was broken down and notated by ear.

*Visual key to come but for some examples*
Paint effect = Acapella
Pixel stretch (vertical tones in the background) = Organ chord synth
Sound wave = Bass guitar synth
Various rectangular lines = Wooden percussion, high hat, bass pluck, cow bell
Various textures = various effects

No.2 {A Summary}

This is an interpretation of the song as a whole. This composition responds to the creative process and natural progression that took place in the creation of this song by Rufus.

No.3 {A Remix}

An alteration and combination of the artworks based on What So Not’s remix of Innerbloom. This visualises the interpretation of the original song through a change in tempo, added synths/effects and the overall energy or ambience of the song. This is achieved through the process of cutting and slicing, transforming and combining.
