BLUETOPIA
“Bluetopia” is a compound word formed from the words “Blue” and “Utopia.” Blue is my favorite color, and it’s a reminder of my beautiful and pure childhood. While taking pictures of blue materials or blue scenery, I was naturally reminded of my childhood story, writing it in my notes over six months. “Bluetopia” is a present to anyone who wants to reflect on their childhood, as if they are rereading their old diary.
“Bluetopia” is a composite of dozens of blue pictures put together and it shows my childhood story each space. The final results are two canvas posters (545*788) and two books for my graduation exhibition.
1st. Ivy-covered school
The first bluetopia is an “ivy-covered school,” made of natural blue pictures of items such as ivy, flowers, sky, and marble. When I walked along the street near the outer walls of the school, I was reminded of the campus story related to my teenage years. I always wanted to have freedom beyond the school. But now I like my school because of the secret and joyful childhood stories that took place there.
2nd. Faded jeans on the street
The second bluetopia is “faded jeans on the street” and it's made of various blue jeans pictures. When I walk on the street, my appearance from my childhood and now still remained every place. At first, my appearance was faint, like an old pair of jeans, but more and more it has become distinct.
“Bluetopia books” each contain a series of stories about my childhood spaces. Several sentences that I wanted to emphasize or conceal were blanked out, and they appeared in the next tracing paper when a reader overlaps the pages. The purpose of the trick is for the reader to slowly imagine the meaning of sentence.
