Playing Arts is launching an international design contest where artists from all over the world
will show off their skills and share their vision of the custom playing cards.
Here is my contribution to the contest and my design for the Ace of Diamonds.
My design takes inspiration from the Italian card game Scopa, and more specifically the card
Denari (Golds or Coins). The cards of that suit are nicknamed as “bello” (handsome or beautiful)
and this card is known as “l’asso bello” or the Ace of Coins/Diamonds.
I have fond memories from my childhood of playing this game on the beach in Italy with my Nonna,
so this project has become very personal to me and I hope that is reflected in my design.
