THE CLER CAFE

THE CLER CAFE

Architect: Yana Vesnina, Olga Sorokina
Project Year: 2016
Location: Gomel, Belarus
Area: 25 sq.m

The concept of the café suggested a combination of confectionary, represented by French-recipe éclairs, and a coffee shop. We decided to play with contrasts and add some brutality to the place. Dismantling of the place revealed brickwork and Staling-era ceilings 4 m high. These conditions formed place into loft and determined us to use clear and simple materials – wood, metal and concrete. Such elements as turquoise sofa and bar counter decorations, gave us the connection between austere shell of the interior with its “sweet” concept.
The area is divided into two zones – entrance group of rooms and seating room. These two zones interact with each other by means of a metal partition. Metal was also used in creating dimensional frameworks above the bar counter, serving as flower-shelves and unique shades for the lamps inside them.
A mirror takes a special place in the interior. It takes the whole place of the niche in its height, creating additional visual depth. In the center of the mirror there is a bas-relief logo of the café.
