Due Mari Winefest will be a wine, food, and culture event hosted in Taranto, Puglia.

The ancient greek town is know for its two seas, infact two water basins part of the Ionian sea, separated by a narrow, artificial channel.

Creation Process

I was asked to express the concept of the two seas and the wine. 
I began looking into how the sea was represented in ancient greek iconography.
This coin, which pictures Taras, the legendary, dolphin-riding founder of the town, provided me with the basic wave shape (bottom part of the coin).

 

From there I started sketching ideas, all revolving around this basic but strong shape and the wine glass.

 

But eventually one stood out more than the others.

It was synthetic, and allowed me to create the illusion of the letter "T" for Taranto in the middle of the shape.
