ABOUT

For the final year of my diploma course at SEGi College Subang Jaya, Malaysia, I was entrusted with leading the marketing materials and creative direction of the showcase, as part of the final year students managing committee.

THEME

We settled on the theme of 'Carpe Diem', which is a Latin aphorism that simply means "seize the day". With that in mind and our limited budget — we the committee decided on three marketing materials: the showcase's poster, it's backdrop, and showcase members T-shirt, all designed by yours truly.

ELEMENTS

The clenched fist can mean a lot of things, from revolutionary ideals, to solidarity, defiance and even support, and it has always been a motif of seizing an opportunity — so I used that as the main element for the poster and the backdrop to signify us graduating students 'seizing' the day.

As for the T-shirt, while researching I came across pictures of sundials in the Middle Ages with 'Carpe Diem' and other Latin inscriptions on it which inspired me to base our T-shirt design on it. A sundial, a clock — essentially a device that gives you a visual of the irreversible dimension we call time, for us not to waste, cause as they say: time is money.

Time shan't be wasted — seize it for your own whenever possible.

PALETTE

And finally, the color palette choice was just a simple complementary yellow and red, specifically crimson red and pastel yellow, with the timeless black and white to complete it. These bright and prominent color combination also makes it easier to attract passersby attention, which is a part of our objective to gain more public attention in the event location.

LOGO

Above is the combination mark logo for my own final project — our task was to create & design a fictional company as a self promotional series for the showcase.

The Mission: Come up with a fictional company.

The Objective: Design the fictional company's logo and it's various materials (poster, brochure, banner, name cards, adverts, stickers and website.

The Vision: Basing the idea of an organization that holds conferences and awareness programs on modern treatment for psychiatric disorders, with psychedelic substances as it's potential medicine.

This very idea was conceptualized from the lack of mental health awareness in my country, Malaysia. As mental health is still a very taboo topic here, I tried to combine both a taboo topic here, and a controversial topic in the world.

#BelieveTheBelief
WEBSITE DESIGN

I went with the color blue for the website, to have a friendlier tone and feel to it, rather than a hostile red or an eerie black — which definitely are not the colors to spark up ideas or a conversation on an unknown topic!

HIGHLIGHTS

ARCHIVED

The rest of my designs in use for my final showcase has been archived for personal reasons, and for possible future commercial use without it being creatively appropriated by others. If you are really interested in viewing them, contact me.
