Nemo's Tentorium- An archive of knowledge and discovery

Nemo’s Tentorium is a speculative floating mobile city designed as an alternative to land-based societies. Inspired by Jules Verne’s character, Captain Nemo, a man of great mystery with a deep love for the ocean and knowledge, the project is set to continue his journey.

Determined to preserve knowledge and craftsmanship, the city is comprised of thousands of silk cocoons, all protecting the valuable information. The information is engraved, printed and studied by the future generations with the help of a multitude of mechanisms, all designed to aid the process.
Through bio-utilisation, certain marine life capabilities are harvested and incorporated into the technological aspect of the city. Evolutionary traits such as bioluminescence, hydrophobicity, camouflage, temperature stabilising, and respiratory advancements help shape the mechanisms that utilise them.

The Tentorium relies on a constant blue whale pod that provides the city with construction material, protection, power and ultimately nourishment for its residents. Similar to the blue whale, Nemo’s Tentorium is set to continue exploring the oceans until its demise. Due to its organic nature, the city will follow the same decomposition process of a dead whale, sinking to the bottom of the ocean and awaiting its decay. After its fall, the Tentorium will become host to complex ecosystems and supply deep-sea creatures with nourishments for decades.

This modern Atlantis, untouched and uncorrupted by terrestrial life will follow a different evolutionary path, developing its own architectural and technological interventions, and in time its own language.
