What is the Pantone Color of the Year?
A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude. (Pantone.com)
Annually, Pantone declares a particular color "Color of the Year". Twice a year the company hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations' color standards groups. After two days of presentations and debate, they choose a color for the following year. (Wikipedia)
A few weeks ago we had a chat with my colleague about the Color of the Year, presented by Pantone. And we were wondering about the selection process, how they choose these colors year by year. Well, of course, I could have read about it on Wikipedia, but the thought that these colors are found during some kind of mysterious and adventurous journey like how India Jones finds the Lost Ark is more exciting. So I illustrated this journey through five images.
In the first picture I used the color of 2015, called Marsala and one of its official color palette by Pantone. In the following four images I worked with the color palettes of Rose Quartz and Serenity, these are the colors of 2016. Specifically the Rose Quartz and Serenity only appear in the last image, because our travellers reach their final destination as well as find the official colors of 2016 here.
