My mug shots is the title for this presentation but the real name oj project is: "My Town Of Shadows."
Photographs are made on 100x70cm barites copies. Below shots are from my thesis.
The whole idea began of course from loud case "City of Shadows: Sydney Police Photographs 1912-1948".
“These “special photographs” were mostly taken in the cells at theCentral Police Station, Sydney and are, as curator Peter Doyleexplains, of “men and women recently plucked from the street, oftenstill animated by the dramas surrounding their apprehension”. Doylesuggests that, compared with the subjects of prison mug shots, “thesubjects of the Special Photographs seem to have been allowed �" perhapsinvited �" to position and compose themselves for the camera as theyliked. Their photographic identity thus seems constructed out of apotent alchemy of inborn disposition, personal history, learned habitsand idiosyncrasies, chosen personal style (haircut, clothing,accessories) and physical characteristics.”
