The Thought Salon

Personal Project
2015

I chose to create a workspace for Malaysian young designers in Kuala Lampur for my personal project. The aim is to gather young Malaysian designers who have graduated from worldwide universities and provide them a space to work giving them the opportunity to share their thoughts on design in a refreshing and inspiring space. The name of the workspace is given as The Thought Salon. Salon is used based on the french term that defines a place where a community meet and share their interests under one roof. The word ‘Thought’ is used since designers will think in the process of getting ideas, and executing design. In this salon, a tea cafe is provided and tea are served to the salon members.

The concept of my design is anamorphic because anamorphic represents space. Anamorphic  is a wide extended design onto object and only can be seen as a whole when looked at one specific angle. This also reflects the action of collaboration as they gather together as designers but each has their own uniqueness. I have used the technique of hanging mobile to employ this concept.
The logo that I designed is based on anamorphic hanging mobile. I used the letter ‘t’ to  represent the abbreviation of the word ‘thought’ and also the pronunciation of the word ‘tea’ .
The location of the workspace was surveyed and is located at Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lampur. There is an abandoned building which is a good size for a workspace. The building has eight houses with two floors.
The first and second floor of the bulding with its interior design.
